The earthquake that struck Bohol on 15 October 2013 devastated the entire Central Visayas region. It was one of the deadliest earthquakes to hit the Philippines, killing 222 people, injuring around 1,000, and displacing more than 600,000. Buildings were severely damaged with 14,500 completely destroyed. Landslides further exacerbated the damage to existing infrastructure. Mercy Relief sent relief teams to Bohol in response to an appeal by the Citizens’ Disaster Response Center.

How we helped:

  • Sent aid worth S$50,000
  • The first tranche of relief supplies was valued at S$20,000, and comprised:
  • 158 jerry cans
  • Procured food supplies from less affected areas, and coordinated local volunteers to sort and repack this for distribution to over 1,000 families
  • Sent a second tranche of relief supplies totalling S$5,296, comprising:
  • Sent a third tranche of relief supplies valued at S$20,000 to 320 families, comprising:
  • 300kg of dried fish
  • Installed three PedalPure ultrafiltration water systems
