Typhoon Morakot was one of the deadliest storms to hit East Asia in 2009, with Mainland China, Taiwan and the Philippines worst affected. In the Filipino municipality of Botolan in Zambales Province and Central Luzon, 175 kph winds with gusts of up to 210 kph and heavy rains triggered flooding and landslides, affecting tens of thousands.
