Beneficiaries: 70 caregivers (parents and teachers), 4,578 special needs children
Problem(s)
- Most schools for children with special needs focused on educating and providing vocational training to those with mild disabilities
- Some schools had therapeutic services for children with moderate disabilities, but services were basic, and the equipment, modest
- Severe conditions were usually treated in the physiotherapy departments of non- specialist hospitals
Intervention and Impact
- Provided teachers and caregivers with the skills to teach and care for special needs children across the spectrum, and introduced carer support groups
- Teachers and caregivers are now better equipped to cater to special needs children
