SINGAPORE, 8 September 2025 – In response to the devastating monsoon floods that have swept across Punjab, India, Mercy Relief (MR) has deployed emergency relief to support affected families. The floods have displaced thousands, submerged acres of farmland, and destroyed homes, prompting major evacuations across multiple districts.

Through its initial wave of relief aid, Mercy Relief reached nearly 5,000 beneficiaries with essential healthcare and non-food items (NFIs), including medical kits with vital medicines for adults and children, blankets and linens, mosquito nets, and support for women’s sanitation needs. These supplies safeguarded the health and dignity of families in the aftermath of the disaster.

“The water was up to here,” recalled one resident from Kaluvada, gesturing to his collarbone. Kaluvada, an island village surrounded by the raging Sutlej River, saw more than 250 inhabitants evacuated at the height of the floods. In the days ahead, families will return to their homes and fields to begin rebuilding their lives.

Executive Director Muhammad Ashik said, “The people of Punjab have shown remarkable resilience, supporting one another even in the face of immense loss. Mercy Relief is honoured to stand alongside these communities, ensuring their urgent relief needs are met, while also listening to their appeals for future aid.”

In the coming weeks, MR will continue to conduct assessments and work with affected families to address their needs, such as restoring their livelihoods. For many, the floods have swept away not only homes, but also the means to sustain their families.
