- At least 24 communities in the region were exposed and vulnerable to natural disasters
Intervention and Impact
- Conducted community-based risk management orientation sessions to improve the local community’s ability to protect itself in the event of a disaster. The sessions:
- Raised awareness on disaster issues
- Taught skills including hazard-mapping, and conducted drills and training on the operation of early warning systems and other activities to help communities react effectively in the face of a disaster
- Encouraged community-based Natural Resources Management and Security Communities to plant seedlings to reduce surface run-off on hill-slopes. This has promoted sustainable agricultural practices and led to livelihood and income diversification
